Project Conserve Seeks Dedicated Individuals to Fill 32 Full-time Positions Serving Critical Conservation Needs of Western North Carolina

The program places members in service with one of 20 organizations working to protect the unique natural resources of the southern Blue Ridge Mountain region. Each member will serve 1,700 hours during an 11 month term, from September 2012 through July 2013.  During their terms of service, members will promote conservation through education, volunteerism and direct service. In addition to serving on individual projects outlined by partnering sites, members participate in required trainings and service days up to twice a month with the full Project Conserve team. Trainings may cover a broad range of topics including conflict resolution, forest management, trail construction, invasive plant identification, and disaster preparedness.

To be Eligible for Project Conserve Positions Applicants Must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age at the commencement of service
  • Have a college degree (Please see individual service descriptions for exceptions)
  • Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States
  • Be available between September 1, 2012 and July 31, 2013 and commit to full-time service
  • Consent to a criminal history check and be cleared for service
  • Additional qualifications for each position are listed in the individual service descriptions
  • Essential functions for each position are listed in the individual service descriptions

Compensation

Members earn a living stipend of $12,300 over the 11-month term of service (Please be aware that the living stipend is taxed when you are budgeting living expenses). Upon successful completion of the program, each member will also receive an education award of $5,550. This award can be used to pay off existing school loans or apply for future education. Other benefits include health insurance and childcare assistance (if needed).

  • Send in your application!  Be sure to review the application checklist on the first page so that you don't forget anything
  • Send a complete application to each host site where you are applying for a position  (Host sites accept electronic or hard copy applications)
  • Email or mail an additional complete copy of your application to Amy Stout the Project Conserve Program Director (You may include your official transcript with your application or arrange for your college to send it separately)
  • Keep a full copy of your application for your records
  • Please note that your application to the Program Director should include a scanned or original signature (signatures are not required for host site copies)
