Welcome to the Adventure Blog

But what is the Adventure Blog?

The adventure blog is your chance to go on adventures vicariously through us, incase you are not able to join us physically. After each of our guided adventures, including hikes, group rides, and kayaking trips, we will write a blog post and upload it here for your enjoyment!

Naturally we invite those of you who have participated in one of our adventures to help us with these posts. So if you have any pictures, comments, art works, or other reflections you would like for us to include in the blog post, feel free to send them to us, (even after the post has been made, we can always update it!)

But what are these Adventures?

The Adventure program, as we call it in-house, is an updated version of the old Hikes and Outings program. We will be planning various outdoor experiences throughout the year that you are welcome to participate in! These outings will now include more than hiking! We have expanded the 2017 program to include a kayak trip, a group mountain bike ride, and a group float down the French Broad River!

If you have an idea for an adventure you think CMLC could coordinate feel free to email Adrienne Brown -

On December 15th, CMLC's Adrienne Brown, Peter Barr and Kristen Lee hosted a Holiday Cookie Walk at the Park at Flat Rock in Flat Rock, NC. This was a more laid back adventure and featured Ginger Brown from the Village of Flat Rock who talked about the Park at Flat Rock and how it came to be.

For those of you who do not already know, the Park at Flat Rock used to be a golf course, before the Village purchased the land and decided to make it into a community park. The park features a walking/running trail, a pollinator highway, a club house, a picnic pavilion and a playground! We met inside the heated club house as the outside temperatures were rather frosty. After a short introduction to the Park at Flat Rock and how the Village of Flat Rock, CMLC, and AmeriCorps Project Conserve all helped to make the park a reality, we headed out into the winter air for a brisk, but pleasant loop around the trail!

We returned to the warmth of the club house and enjoyed cookies, coffee and good conversation! The event had four brave human adventurers and one furry companion of the dog persuasion. This was considered to be quite the accomplishment, given the time of day during the week and the outside temperature!

If you missed out on this adventure but would like to join us for some of our future adventures, be sure to come back real soon and visit our CMLC Adventures page or our Facebook, where you will find updated event information!
